Privatized Public Utilities to Workers and the Public – Drop Dead!

Vic in Studio With James SlevinThere will plenty of post election coverage today, but we are focusing on our mission, letting labor unions get their message out. So what do you think about “privatization?” If you think it’s just fine and dandy…maybe you should listen to today’s LABOR-LINES radio broadcast on NYC’s WWRL-AM 1600 at 11:00 am,

A disturbing pattern has been emerging where privatized utilities are entrusted to companies who will seek to cut costs and undermine workers – union and non-union to create profits at the cost of the people who use the services and the workers who make them run. Jim Slevin, President of the Utility Workers of America Local 1, discusses the Con Ed Lock out and how only a few weeks later Local 1 Workers, notwithstanding the employers outrageous behavior, returned to the job to work round the clock to get the NYC utilities back up and running after Storm Sandy. Next, on Long Island, Chris Gavin, a Vice-President at TWU Local 252 describes how inadequate funding and poor management decisions and corporate profiteering at the Nassau’s NICE buses are creating havoc for riders and workers alike.
