Open enrollment for Obamacare closes on March 31st and amidst the political battles and technical glitches, many are still confused about what Obamacare means for them. This program explores what Obamacare means for the average worker and how to ascertain what you should know before applying. We hear from labor leaders and insurance brokers about what needs to be done to make sure health care is affordable.
What Obamacare means for union workers.
In the political battle over Health Care, it can be difficult to find out what exactly Obamacare offers to the average individual. In an effort to answer the practical questions about entitlement, enrollment and benefit availability under Obamacare, Jason Samel, an insurance broker, created a website called Long Island Obamacare where all the basic information can be found. He started the website because he saw too much misinformation being bandied about. He offers suggestions as to how to better understand Obamacare before the open enrollment ends on March 31st.
Labor’s Perspective on Obamacare
Labor’s perspectives on Obamacare are quite diverse, but everyone can agree that something needs to be done about it. Christiaan Perez covered the Labor Press Health Care Summit and learned what some Labor Leaders think about Obamacare. Arthur Cheliotes, President of CWA local 1180, tells us about how his union intends to keep fighting for a better Health Care. Tom Buffenbarger, International President of the “Machinists” (IAMAW) discusses concerns some of his members have about Obamacare. Then, Michael Jordan, Magnacare’s Vice-President of Labor and Strategic Accounts, suggests labor unions need to become ever more cost conscious and pro-active, in order to afford the mandates imposed on their funds by Obamacare.
